Troop 746's 60 Anniversary Weekend Camping Trip 7-9 September 2012
What I liked most about the anniversary celebration was…
“…camping on the field because we played different sports.” Ian
“…being able to camp and the catapult we built.” Andrew
A grand time was had by all who participated in the Troop 746 60th Anniversary Celebration Weekend. The celebration began with the troop setting up camp on the athletic field at St. Joseph's on Friday night. After the preparation work was done the boys enjoyed some free time and late night pizza.
Saturday was a busy and fun filled day. The scouts ran scout skill stations including a giant catapult they had built. A display of troop history was open all day in the Parish Center. Guests could view old photos and memorabilia (thanks Mr. Bob and Mr. Norbert) and a slide show of photos from 2002 to present.
One of the highlights of the day was the troop’s first Pinewood Derby race. There were three classes- youth, adult, and outlaw. Many creative cars were entered and competition was fierce, drawing constant cheers from the crowd of scouts, families, and guests. Thanks to Miss Kathy, Mr. Paul Amrhein, and Mr. Erik for their hard work to make the derby happen.
The troop was honored with a visit by Senator Kathy Klausmeier. She addressed the group at the celebration, officially recognizing the 60 years that the troop has served the youth of St. Josephs Parish.
The Bull Roast was delicious! Thank you so much to our cooks, Mr. Henry, Mr. Joe, and Mr. Bill Crist. The rain storm that moved through Saturday afternoon did not deter everyone from enjoying the mouth-watering ham, turkey, and beef, but the festivities were moved into the Parish Center.
Fr. Tom Phillips inspired the troop with his homily during a special mass celebrated in honor of the troop’s anniversary.
Despite the rain Mr. Jim kept the campfire going, but the patrol skits and songs were performed in the Parish Center.
The celebration weekend concluded on Sunday as the troop broke camp and in true scout form, “left no trace.”
